The Tara Kanko Hotel is located in the town of Tara on the coast of Saga Prefecture facing the Ariake Sea, which boasts the greatest difference in water level between high and low tide in Japan. All rooms in the hotel offer a view of the sea. By car, this area of coastline takes 2.5 hours to reach from Fukuoka City and 1.5 hours to reach from Saga Airport.

LocationThe Tara Kanko Hotel stands right next to the sea in a small port. We opened the hotel because we wanted to entertain as many people as possible with delicious cuisine. In 1997, we constructed a new annex and remodeled the facilities into a Japanese-style inn with a resort atmosphere.
Please enjoy a relaxed time during your trip here amidst the rich natural environment directly next to the sea.

CuisineWe offer several dining courses in which you can enjoy fresh seafood and our specialty “Takesaki-Kani” in particular.
In addition to fresh seafood from the Ariake Sea – such as oysters, sea bream, shrimp, turban shell and our specialty “Takesaki-Kani” .
we also offer meat dishes such as “Saga Beef,” a brand of beef that we recommend trying at least once if you come to Saga.
We are rated very highly by guests who decide their accommodations based on the available cuisine.

Hot SpringLarge gender-specific baths are located on the first floor of the hotel. We provide both indoor and outdoor baths. Our sea-facing, spacious outdoor baths are very popular.
Depending on the time, the genders of the baths may be reversed.

RoomsOur guest rooms, Japanese style rooms and Japanese-Western style rooms of differing sizes, are located on the second and third floors. Our standard room type is a Japanese style room with a view of the sea.

The appeal of Tara

Entering the town of Tara, you will find a number of “oyster stands” along the road where you can enjoy charcoal grilled seasonal seafood. The area is particularly bustling with tourists during the winter season.
In addition to Takesaki-Kani (crab) and Takesaki-Kaki (oysters), another area specialty is lusciously-sweet mandarin oranges. Processed goods such as juice and jelly are also popular.
On nights when the moon is full, you can see the effects of the moon’s gravitational pull here. A “moon road” appears on the sea floor as the tide rolls out. This intersects with the lights of the town facing it and provides a fantastical view.
